SJM 2016 Charity Auction and Dinner Raises MOP3.04 Million for Macau Charities

(Macau, 10 November 2016) MOP3.04 million was raised at the 10th SJM Charity Auction and Dinner hosted by Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) at Grand Lisboa, Macau on

10 November 2016. All proceeds raised from the charity auction were donated to ten charities in Macau.

The evening featured a sumptuous banquet of white truffle cuisine created by Chef Enrico Cerea of Da Vittorio, a famous 3-star Michelin restaurant in Italy that delights customers with their philosophy of “Lombard tradition and creative genius”. During the dinner, guests enjoyed vocal performances by talented sopranos Cui Jing Hai (崔京海) and Gong Jun Li (龔俊莉) from Beijing.

The high point of the evening was the auction of a modern art piece by Xu Zhen (徐震), titled Let me re-phrase my question (《讓我重新提出我的問題?》), 2015. Xu is an iconic figure in Chinese contemporary art. He has been the subject of various solo exhibitions and major international group exhibitions, and was named the “Best Artist” at the Chinese Contemporary Art Awards (CACC) in 2004. Xu established “MadeIn Company” in 2009 and subsequently launched the “Xu Zhen” brand in 2013. After intense bidding, SJM, represented by Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer Ms. Angela Leong, was the successful bidder for the item at MOP1.52 million.

Other exquisite auction lots included a modern art piece by Lai Chiu Chen (賴九岑), titled The Rainbow Twins Playing Buck-Buck (《彩虹孿生球疊疊樂》) 2014; one bottle (0.75L) of Romanée-Conti 1996, and dining for two at Da Vittorio plus one night accommodation in La Dimora; one bottle (3L) of Romanée-Saint-Vivant 1988 DRC; and an official team shirt of SJM Theodore Racing – 2015 Macau Grand Prix Champions, signed by Teddy Yip, Jr., Felix Rosenqvist, Jake Dennis and Lance Stroll.

All proceeds raised from the charity auction were donated to ten Macau charities, namely Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society, Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association, Obra das Mães, Macau Special Olympics, Macau Holy House of Mercy, Charity Fund From The Readers of Macao Daily News (2016 Walk for a Million), Caritas de Macau (2017 Caritas Macau Charity Bazaar), Yat On Responsible Gaming Counselling Centre, Macau Social Services Centre and Macau Association of the Hearing Impaired. A cheque presentation ceremony attended by representatives of the charities was held immediately after the auction.

Dr. Ambrose So, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, said, “This year marks the tenth anniversary of our charity dinner and auction. We are delighted to see that the spirited bidding for the auction items has successfully raised MOP3.04 million for worthy charities in Macau.”
